Local writer Tom Glenn will speak to the Annapolis chapter of the MWA on September 17th, at 6:30pm. The title of his talk is “Writing No-accounts”, about his latest novel and readings from it. Published by Apprentice House in March, 2014, the book recounts in fiction the grueling work of helping AIDS victims at the beginning of the epidemic in the mid-1980s. Glenn, who is straight, worked with seven patients—all gay, all died. “My job,” Glenn says, “was not to judge. My job was to help men die.”
The meeting is open to the public and free to MWA members and first-time guests. All others may pay $5.00. Annual dues to MWA are $40.00 and include other benefits on top of monthly attendance. About the author: Tom Glenn has worked as an intelligence operative, a musician, a linguist (seven languages), a cryptologist, a government executive, a care-giver for the dying, a leadership coach, and, always, a writer. Glenn’s fiction has dealt largely with Vietnam where he spent the better part of thirteen years as an undercover intelligence operative. His best-known work is his Vietnam novel-in- stories, Friendly Casualties, published in 2012. The Baltimore Post-Examiner printed his story of the fall of Saigon and his role in it as a three-installment article in August and September 2013.
